The first raid

11 Dec

SDPD got away with macing a handful of my close friends who were locking arms around our last tent. We didn’t see the public outcry that was shown for UC Davis protesters, however that day is forever embedded in all of our minds. The standoff was well over four hours and this is what it came to. At the end of the standoff the police maced peaceful protesters, and then retreated. We kept our tent that day.

Although we aren’t fighting for tents, they remain a powerful symbol in the Occupy San Diego Movement. This was a poster we put over our tarps on our rainy one month anniversary, after the police had taken all of our tents away.

None of the people who were maced were charged with anything. They were simply maced and left to deal with their burning eyes. Are we owed an apology?
